10 Reasons: Why Prioritizing Travel Is A Must #TravelTips - The Happy Getaway 2017

The Happy Getaway is back! with your weekly edition of Travel Reviews, Tips & Experience blogging. And in our Monday edition today, we talk about the 10 reasons why, you need to make time off your "Oh so, busy!" schedule to travel. To get out off your bed and not be lazy to explore, and create experiences, here are our top 10 reasons, why you should be travelling this weekend.

#10 Nature & Wildlife Heals

We all know that being around nature and wild life creates a sense of peace and belonging which helps us calm down from our usual day stresses. The smell of wet grass, and the buzzing of the wild life helps refresh and rejuvenate our senses so as to be able to find peace and joy. And it is not every day that we spend time in the greens listening to birds or dipping our feet into a river. Thus after a hard week's work we all deserve the pampering and comfort of being lost in the arms of nature.

Don't deprive yourself off it, just because it takes some effort.

#9 Learn About New Cultures & Traditions

If you love discovering and learning new things. Then travel is your best outlet. Every fort, village, cave, mountain or waterfall you may visit has its own tale of being formed. Embraced in the culture and community that surrounds it. There's always something new to learn and experience and if you love learning that you must surely, get yourself a new experience every weekend. Through which you can disconnect with your present belief systems and find solace within memories from the past, and learn more about the rich heritage and history of the world.

#8 Challenge & Push Yourself To Builds Persistence & Accommodate

Image result for facing challenges

It's difficult these days to be persistent to push yourself to finish a trek or climb a mountain or to be accommodating and adjust to changing circumstances. Travel helps you work on both fronts. It makes you push yourself to keep up and reach the top and makes you learn to make do, adjust and make the most of circumstances irrespective of how difficult it may be or seem. So come, push yourself to not be lazy or complain about all your problems and limitations, just pack your bag and find your adventure.

#7 Learn More About Your Preferences & Dislikes

How well do we know ourselves? How often do we put ourselves in unfavorable situations and learn new things about ourselves? Not often, I'm sure. But travel, is a world of self discovery. And through doing a trip on a budget, that may not be comfortable or as you would usually prefer it, you would learn new things about yourself. About what you like, how you like it. You'd learn more about who you are, and how you react differently to circumstances. And what's more valuable than self discovery right?

#6 Create's A Memorable Experience

Image result for memorable experience

The modern generations is often caught out for investing time into experiences that dont last more than a few hours or days. Putting time into nothing that you can think or reflect upon years later and take away from. Investing into memorable experiences that can help you through life and can make you a better version of you is the need of today. A memory of doing a trek, sitting across a river, doing BBQ near a lake, making new friends and sharing stories. These are memories and experiences that are cherish-able than most things we'd do ordinarily. So why not go out and make memories? Than stay in and be thankful for Netflix?

#5 Helps Clear Your Mind

Image result for memorable experience

Do you feel like your mind is overly clogged at times. So much that you can't get things done or pay attention. So much that you can't be creative or breathe freely without getting worried. It maybe any particular reason but it is important for your mind to be at peace, for you to live life to the fullest. And this is what travel does for you, it helps you clear your mind and refresh your canvas. It helps you detach from the world and reconnect with a world of purity away from the noise. In the most natural and organic way possible break away from your worries.

#4 Meet & Connect With New People

We all love to be comfortable and protected within our small circle of friends and people we know. But what are the possibilities of meeting someone from the other side of the world? With similar interests but who does not live in your neighborhood? A role model? Travelling helps your meet and connect with people over a journey. It helps learn more about them and yourself by spending time with people from various walks of life. Reflecting upon perspectives and experiences

And maybe making a new best friend?

#3 We All Need The Exercise

You know, we do. The age old gym membership or going for a run dream never comes true with the fast paced life that we live in. It is very important for us to keep fit and get that regular exercise that we all need. And what better way to do it? Through travel. It helps you freshen up your body through regular movement and helps build your fitness and stamina to take on any challenge that is put in front of you. It helps you stay fit in the most enjoyable way possible and not in vicinity of four walls.

#2 Helps You Connect With Yourself

Our second most important reason why should prioritize travel is because it helps you connect with yourself. And man, isn't that essential. I mean you may be doing all the right things in the world and having the best of friends, but unless you haven't connected with yourself what is all that worth? Travel gives you that safe and open space to be able to spend time with yourself and with your emotions. It helps you discover and find who you are and what your purpose is better. It helps you bring clarity to how you may then go on to describe and think yourself. Away from what the world may think or perceive you to be.

#1 Break The Monotony

The number one reason is, that you should break that ordinary followed since childhood routine of doing certain things on certain days. Break the monotony of schedules and of life and do the unexpected. Become more spontaneous and open to living life, as it comes. To packing your bags and following your heart and not your mind. Surprise yourself, and don't shy away from putting that hard work in that you know you will appreciate in the future.

And that's a rap folks, thank's for reading through our top 10 reasons, why travel should be one of the things that you push yourself into prioritizing, because it makes all the other things that you do tick. Are there any other reasons according to you? Do share and let us know, if you think we should add to this, or anything you do not agree with.

A Lost & Depleted City Fort - Riwa Fort 2015

It’s fun sometimes, to pack your bags and head out exploring. To climb new mountains and visit unexplored places. I often look for places and research about lost forts and historical monuments. I look up places around me, that id never have had visited If I didn't know or have this interest in travelling. I recently came across this fort called as Riwa Fort, Google maps seemed to know where it was located. And Wikipedia had a paragraph or so about it. So I was like, what the hell. Let’s go check this out. So before I head out for my day filled with work, meetings and other not so fun things I decided to visit this fort.

I took a cab, but its easily accessible by train too as it is located very close to Sion Station. Took me 15-20 mins from Bandra, but could take lesser by train. So firstly, this is not an easy fort to find. Even though Google Maps has it marked down, it did take me quite some time to locate this fort. I went through circles, a slum, around the talav and finally near an Ayurvedic center is where I located a gate that had stairs going upwards. After being lost for a while, I finally began to ask people where is the god damn fort? I showed them the map too. A few suggested that it must be on the hill. And since nothing else seemed more likely. I started climbing up the stairs. I met this cleaner or chacha (Uncle) of some sort who had flashy red eyes and a stinge of the alcohol he was drinking and pointed towards no particular direction and said haan beta Killa Killa. (Hahahahah!). So the base layer has some plantation circles happening by the center. And the higher you climb (which is not very high.) you begin to see remains of the fort. It’s hardly even a fort. If you like big walls and a lot to see this is probably not for you as there wasn’t much to see at all. There's just a few stairs if at all they count as remains and a Bastian built with black rock which stands tall on the hill. Fort Riwa was built by Britishers after the attack of Siddi of Janjira on Mumbai in 1672 AD. After Siddi’s attack, Britishers constructed chains of new forts around Mumbai. This fort is one of them. It is located quite close to the Dharavi slums and Sion.

Mahim creek divided the main islands of Mumbai from Saashti Islands. Saashti Island was under the regime of Portugese. In those days trade was carried through the Mahim creek and Saashti islands. The main aim to build this fort was to keep an eye on the trade activities in the Mahim creek and also to protect themselves from the potential threat from Portuguese and Marathas from the north. The fort was built by Jerald Augier in 1672 A.D.

So this fort historically seemed to be used only to keep watch, and it being on a hill seems to make that seem feasible. There is a decent view that can be enjoyed from the hill too.

It was a fun getaway, to see whatever it is that remained of the place. I still felt that there was more to the fort. And that you know I was probably at the wrong place or not there yet. I tried going through different paths and realised that this is it. Sometimes even a little bit is a lot, in terms of memories of what is left of places or things. So I sat down then at the basitan and looked into the forest. It felt warm and good. The birds there made a lot of noise, and the peace and quiet really makes you feel like you are home. You can see a lot of the city from the hill, the roads, vehicles and people. Soon I began to head back towards work, leaving the hill, stairs and greenery behind. I could claim that this is a scam for a fort. And probably google and everyone else shouldn’t really call it a fort. But you know what? I don’t really feel that bad. It is what it is. Expectations and how majestic or well kept other forts are shouldn’t come in the way of a new experience. I loved that is so long lost, yet so close to home and how people don’t seem to care for it and yet it stands tall to be loved, seen and explored by people. Would surely love to visit again soon, maybe this time with a group or more people.

A Beautiful Cave With A Peaceful Heart - Kanheri Caves 2015

It’s good at times to just pack your bags call a few people you love and head out exploring and visiting new or long lost places. Kicking back your feet, doing things spontaneously not having a schedule, and just having places in mind that you want to catch glimpses off. So this was one of my first of such kind of trips, backpacking to the Kanheri Caves in Borivali, a place I had visited at an early age as a child (And, I really did not remember much off.) with a few good friends that made the trip even more memorable. A short yet memorable trip was about to get underway.

It started off with me calling Sheldon, and saying “You’re free, I’m free, lets do this.” We soon spoke to Dua and Jean, and gradually the next morning we were catching a train from Bandra station and heading out to Borivali. Me and Dua enjoyed some cold lassi, idli’s and morning vada's at a few stalls close to the station as we waited for Jean. As soon as she arrived we, caught a rickshaw and head towards the park. (You can usually take a bus too, it’s pretty close to the Borivali East station, and right on the highway if you're travelling by road.). We reached the park and soon began our long walk towards the caves. The weather was pleasant, you can see others walking, jogging and reminiscing the beautiful morning and nature too. Cycling around (Renting them) is a good option too, unless you have people who do not cycle, or wish to learn to cycle in your group then you will need to walk.

So after a long walk of conversations, jokes and enjoying cold cucumbers we had finally reached the base point of the caves. I have been to a few Buddhist caves in the recent times, and they all have this beautiful feeling of peace, harmony and beauty in them. You’d feel like you’ve finally gotten home after all these years. There are numerous amount of small caves you can explore there once you enter. You’ll see a lot of trees, monkeys and remains from the olden days. We saw two snake too! (If you’re lucky/ during the monsoons) The caves are quite well maintained and taken care off. These caves are as old as from the first century BCE to the 10th century CE. Around a 109 caves are carved here out of basalt. All caves have a stone plinth for a surface. A huge congregation hall with huge stone pillars contains the well crafted and beautiful statue, the Buddhist shrine. Some of the caves were use for living, studying and meditating (Vihara’s). The larger caves are the ones we're halls used for congregational worship (Chaitya’s). Avalokiteshwara are the most different figure. The large number of viharas demonstrates the well organized establishment of Buddhist monks.

This Cave was also connected with many trade centers, such as the ports of Sopara, Kalyan, Nasik, Paithan and Ujjain. Kanheri was a University center by the time the area was under the rule of the Maurayan and Kushan empires. There are about 34 unfinished paintings of Buddha within the Caves. Nearly 51 legible inscriptions and 26 epigraphs (Cave 90) are found at Kanheri, which is very beautiful to see. I was really put to ease by the architecture and work put into it by the monks, surely historical. Dua was mentioning how it is a bliss to visit these caves during the monsoons, as there a lot of waterfalls and small streams that flow across the park, and the weather also is bliss. (Must go again!). There are also various bird and butterfly watching spots (Clubs too) across the park that one can visit or spend time at to enjoy a little bit of nature.

We head back after exploring. We took a bus that dropped us at a central point. We then, by feet climbed up stairs that a lady told us can help us see all of Mumbai, yes just 100 steps and you can see all of Mumbai (Note to self: never believe random stranger aunties, or ask them where steps lead too.). We climbed up to see nothing, then head back and saw Deers (Many kinds), Vulchers and Peacocks. They were beautiful to see, and touch and be with up close. We even fed this really beautiful looking deer a banana that Sheldon was carrying with him. Was really nice to see them all chill at the shade of the tree, trying to enjoy the warm summer. We soon then later grabbed a bite and head back. Cause it was time to goo home.

It was a nice experience this, not going with a group running around having a schedule. It was nice to just spend really long hours talking at a place, fooling around, being at peace and just being together. Its sad to see that even though the cave is so close to the city, and to our lifeline (Unlike the other far off places I usually visit) there is not as much importance given to this place. Yes people do visit now and then, and you’d see it buzzing with locals and nature/history lovers. However, I really feel this place should be adored for how peaceful, beautiful and home like it is. I really hope to do more spontanious trips, and local trips in the future. And learn more about important and significant places right around the corner and backyard. Hope to do more trips and getaways with these guys too. (Hi5! Love you guys.)
